A compact treadmill is not only growing in popularity amongst the average runner but it's becoming even more popular for the avid runners. The biggest benefit with the folding or portable treadmill is space. Two things that contribute to its popularity is the lack of space available and our ever growing need to stay or get in shape to improve our appearance and to live longer and happier lives. Being able to transform a small area of your place into your workout area and then pack it away easily in minutes, makes it the ultimate training equipment.
Treadmill manufacturers were quick to oblige with the compact treadmill but most equipment seemed to give up some quality for the fold away aspect of the machine. But now with the popularity growing everyday, manufacturers are really getting innovative with their designs and quality of their products. Although, they're still not on par with the top of the line fitness center quality, you can get some treadmills that not only look great when folded away but they are really very high quality machines with features galore, heavy duty frames and excellent quality tracks.
Another issue that was very evident in the past is that treadmill manufacturers would compromise the length of their tracks for the overall foot print when open and closed. This, in my opinion, is the worst feature of the compact treadmill as it really took away from the ability to run comfortably and in full stride, which in turn, just deteriorated the effectiveness of your workouts. But now with the newer effective designs available, a full track is as easy to fold up and store away in clostes or under beds as the smaller tracks. This gives the user the option of how beneficial their workouts will be.
Some of they key features that you should look for in a compact treadmill is a motor capable of between 6-8 mph, a sturdy frame to support twice your weight, easy folding and fold away setup, and a track length of 48 inches minimum. Then add in certain features that you personally prefer like, incline capability to simulate outdoor running, a music port for your iPod or Mp3 player, bottle holder, whatever floats your boat.
If you're serious about staying in shape and would like the flexibility of working out at home, don't let space be the determining factor between training or not. Do yourself a favour and check out the availability of a compact treadmill and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the features and quality you can find in today's newly designed treadmills.
